Venus in Retrograde is one of Alea Pınar Du Pré’s most intimate and conceptually rich bodies of work, where mythology, contemporary culture, and inner consciousness converge.
In this series, Venus is no longer merely the goddess of love and beauty. She becomes a figure navigating the economies of desire, visibility, and consumption that shape our contemporary world. She smokes, DJs, eats pizza, rides motorcycles — and yet, within these ordinary and provocative gestures, she remains unmistakably divine.
Du Pré fuses Renaissance iconography with the visual language of the digital age, creating an aesthetic that oscillates between timelessness and hyper-present reality. Angels no longer descend from heaven, but from algorithmic skies; the sacred and the pop coexist within the same visual field.
